Know your Judges

The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals is the state’s highest court – and it’s only appellate court.  Our state Supreme Court consists of five sitting Justices, who are elected to serve twelve-year terms.  Current members of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals are: 

  • Chief Justice Brent D. Benjamin:  Chief Justice Benjamin was elected to a full twelve-year term on the Supreme Court of Appeals in November 2004.  Read Chief Justice Benjamin’s full bio
  • Justice Robin Jean Davis:  Justice Davis was elected to an unexpired term on the Supreme Court of Appeals in 1996.  She was re-elected to a full twelve-year term in November 2000.  Read Justice Davis’ full bio
  • Justice Margaret L. Workman:  Justice Workman was elected to a twelve-year term on the Supreme Court of Appeals in November 2008.  She previously was elected to the Court in November 1988.  Read Justice Workman’s full bio
  • Justice Menis E. Ketchum, II:  Justice Ketchum was elected to a full twelve-year term of the Supreme Court of Appeals on November 4, 2008.  Read Justice Ketchum’s full bio
  • Justice Thomas E. McHugh:  Justice McHugh was elected to the Supreme Court in 1980 and was re-elected to a second twelve-year term in 1992.  Justice McHugh was recently appointed by Governor Manchin to serve the remainder of Justice Joseph Albright’s unexpired term.  Read Justice McHugh’s full bio
