For years now, WV CALA has been highlighting abuses in the Attorney General’s office. And Attorney General Darrell McGraw’s actions continue to raise serious ethical issues.
In the past year, questions were again raised about McGraw’s use of private lawyers to file lawsuits on behalf of the state. In a case against two major credit card companies, the Attorney General’s outside counsel – many of whom were campaign contributors – were awarded $3.9 million in legal fees. WV CALA pointed out that McGraw’s outside counsel had failed to properly account for the number of hours they worked, resulting in an award of nearly $3,300 per hour!
WV CALA will continue to monitor the actions of Attorney General Darrell McGraw to ensure that public funds don’t go to waste.
