Follow The Money
This year, WV CALA has again conducted extensive research of publicly available campaign finance reports in an effort to highlight campaign contributions from the personal injury lawsuit industry. Here’s the latest on candidates running for the following offices:
State Supreme Court
With two open seats available, this year’s race for Supreme Court is arguably the most important election statewide. As such, personal injury lawyer interests are showering large amounts of campaign contributions so that they can maintain control of the court.

Attorney General
This year’s race for Attorney General is also important for state residents. Candidate Dan Greear poses a serious challenge to long-time incumbent Darrell McGraw. As a result, McGraw’s campaign contributing personal injury lawyer friends have come out in full force to make sure they maintain their lucrative no-bid legal contracts with the Attorney General’s office.

West Virginia Legislature
In an attempt to limit legal reform efforts, personal injury lawyers continue to shower large campaign contributions on legislative candidates that often represent districts outside their own.
WV CALA has once again compiled its “Dirty Dozen” list of the top twelve legislative candidates who raised the most money from personal injury lawyer interests. As in years past, several “Dirty Dozen” candidates were rejected by West Virginia voters, with three of this year’s top six facing defeat in the primary election.

WV CALA has also compiled a list of the ten personal injury law firms that have given the most in contributions to Attorney General, Legislative, and Supreme Court candidates. The large amounts of money show that these firms are certainly invested in keeping West Virginia’s reputation as a “judicial hellhole.”
