Bias?

As much as the public would like to see members of the judiciary being impartial, West Virginians sometimes see the opposite.

Justice Larry Starcher recently spoke to a group of students and openly stated his dislike for a certain coal company.

Justice Starcher, while serving in a Supreme Court session, commented about an individual, “I never could stand the [expletive deleted]!”

Interestingly, in 1998, the American Trial Lawyers Association named Justice Larry Starcher to a National Judicial Independence Committee.

In an overt act of bias, former Circuit Judge Joseph Troisi reportedly bit the nose of a defendant while presiding over a case.
